In sustainable tourism, you, the hotelier, have a huge responsibility. As we know, hotels significantly impact the local environment, economy, and culture. But making that impact positive takes a tremendous amount of work. 

We know the frustration of relying on big booking sites to keep you in business. So we aim to bring your target market directly to you for booking.

We are a small team globally distributed in North America and the EU. Our advantage is our solid knowledge of both of these markets. With our combined expertise in design, sustainability, brand development, and hospitality and tourism, we have an edge to curate and promote you to audiences you may not otherwise get exposed to.

We will review your property and if it looks like we’re a good fit, we will contact you for an interview (via Zoom or in-person if possible) to know more about you and your accommodations.  

What makes a Hotel "Good?"

We are often asked, "what makes a Good Hotel a Good Hotel?" To start, goosebumps. The ability of a hotel to inspire excitement and hair standing on end at initial glance is the first mark. That said, our hotels must possess certain characteristics beyond gut instinct alone. 

We first look for style and vibe (sustainability doesn't mean much if the aesthetics aren't on point). Then, a firm dedication to nature, culture, and people is an essential quality. Finally, owners with a good story and a natural ability to host are the icing on the cake. 

Let's break that down some more...

We don't look for particular certifications or accreditations as some of the hotels that exemplify our ideal have none. We prefer an intimate boutique stay with a lot of soul and inherent love for the planet and its people. 

Good Trips does not believe in perfection. We believe in intent. In addition to our experience, we are guided by the standards laid out by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for Tourism, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, and the Cape Town Declaration on Responsible Tourism

Good Trips Hotels push the boundaries in design and originality, responsibility, and hospitality and warmth, and properties will meet a certain percentage of the following characteristics:

  • Design and originality

    • unique

    • designed to reflect the local culture and/or surroundings

    • furniture and decor crafted artisanally or is secondhand

    • meaningful

    • less is more

  • Responsibility

    • low impact design

    • use of local and/or natural materials

    • supports local community (culturally, economically, environmentally)

    • low-to-no chemical/toxin use

    • low-to-no single use plastic

    • organic food

  • Hospitality

    • boutique (preferably less than 50 rooms but we have made some exceptions)

    • owner or manager operated – we focus on you and your story

    • guests have highly personalized experiences

    • service is secondhand nature and always stellar

WE HAVE FOUND THAT THIS MINIMIZES ADMINISTRATIVE HEADACHES ON BOTH SIDES AND KEEPS THE BOOKING REVENUE IN YOUR POCKETS.

*Under special circumstances, we will consider working on a commission base (10% per completed booking).
